To protect campers, hosts and the local community eligible people (over 12 years) must be fully vaccinated to stay at Okarito Campground. My Vaccine Passes will be checked on arrival. Applies from 15 December 2021 onwards.
Located in an idyllic spot on New Zealand’s South Island West Coast, the Okarito Campground lies on a sand spit adjacent to the Tasman Sea. Sheltered by native trees the rainforest and the towering Southern Alps provide the finishing touches.
The little village of Okarito is home to a small community of 28 or so permanent residents who are passionate about nature, conservation and enjoying the outdoors. They are the providers of this campground on Department of Conservation land.
The campground is simple, yet comfortable; amenities are minimal and yet the necessities are provided for. The community prides itself on providing you with a type of campground that is increasingly difficult to find, where the experience of being outdoors is what comes first!
